Leading the Way - Provan Talks 26/27

As we kick off our 2026/27 campaign, few players understand the journey so far quite like Amber Provan.

From being part of a brand-new squad finding its feet to helping the team finish fourth in its breakthrough campaign, Provan has been there from the beginning. Now, after being named Players’ Player of the Season last year, she steps into a new role as club captain.

With the season already in full swing, we caught up with Amber to reflect on where Atlético have come from, what she has learnt along the way and what it means to lead the team into its second season.

Building Something From the Beginning

Starting something new is never easy. For the club, last season was about building a team both on and off the pitch, and for Amber, being part of that process was one of the most exciting parts of joining Atlético London.

“Coming into a new team, meeting new girls and being part of building something from the beginning was really exciting,” she says. “We were all developing together and getting to know each other, both on and off the pitch.”

It wasn’t a completely straightforward start, and we took time to find our rhythm, but as the season progressed, the team began to grow into itself. By the second half of the campaign, progress was clear as we went unbeaten and finished a respectable fourth in our very first season.

“We started off a bit shaky at the beginning”, Provan admits. “But as the season went on, we developed as a team, worked better together and started getting the results we wanted. To finish fourth in our first season was a really good achievement.”

Her own contribution was also recognised, with Provan named Players’ Player of the Season at our End of Season Awards.

“To be recognised by your teammates for your commitment and for playing consistently well means a lot,” she explains. “Your teammates are the people you spend the most time with and work alongside every week, so to receive that recognition from them was really special.”

For a player who has been a key part of Atlético’s story, it was a fitting recognition of the role she played in helping establish the team.

Leading from the Back

Having already established herself as an important figure in the squad, she will lead Atlético into the new season with the captain’s armband. It is a responsibility she is proud to take, but one she sees as being about much more than just 90 minutes on the pitch.

“I’m really committed as a player and to be given the captain’s role is a great achievement for me,” she says. “It’s something I’m really proud of, and I’m looking forward to taking on the responsibility.”

For Provan, being captain means being someone her teammates can trust, whether that’s on the pitch during the biggest moments, or away from it throughout the week.

“For me, it’s about being confident, supporting the players as much as I can and being someone the team can rely on,” she explains. “I want to lead by example on the pitch, but also make sure everyone feels supported off it.”

That sense of togetherness has been central to our journey as a team so far, and it will be just as important as we look to take another step forward this season.

Ready for More

Fourth place gave us a strong foundation to build from. Now, with a season of experience under our belt, the ambition is to push further.

The main goal is simple. “I want to win the league and hopefully win some cups as well. Personally, I want to keep playing the way I am, continue developing as a player and help us develop as a team.”

There is a balance to those ambitions. The desire to compete for silverware is clear, but so too is the importance of continuing to enjoy the journey and growing together as a team. That is perhaps the biggest difference between our first and second seasons. Last year was about discovering what this team could become; this year is about seeing how far we can go.

And as captain, Provan will be at the heart of that next chapter. We asked her to sum up what Atlético London will achieve this season in just three words. Her answer was simple.

“Win the league.”
