Five Goal Thriller in Sudbury

Last weekend saw us continue our winning start away at AFC Sudbury in the second game of the season. 

The game kicked off in thrilling fashion, with chances coming quickly at both ends. After a missed opportunity for us to gain the advantage, the home side took the lead, capitalising on the break with an unfortunate own goal. 

We didn’t let this slow us down though; soon levelling. New recruit Isla Callison played a skilled through ball to our number 9, splitting the defence. Haylock, doing what she does best, sent it home, beating the keeper at the near post. 

But it didn’t stay level for long as Sudbury raised the bar again, making it 2-1 from a corner. We responded once more as Player of the Match Olianna Bishop had a great run down the left-hand side, spotting Khyri McKenzie in the middle. McKenzie held off her defender before striking on the turn with a perfectly placed kick into the bottom right corner. 

From here on, we dominated the game, putting pressure on their keeper, who had a brilliant run, pulling off countless incredible saves and sending us into half-time searching for the winner. 

With our aim clear, we headed into the second half fighting. Haylock spotted a winning opportunity, losing her players down the right-hand side and laying off the ball to Rea Laudat Thomas-Arayo, who emphatically looped it around the keeper to secure us the win.

After a long seven minutes of extra time, which saw a strong performance from our backline, the whistle finally blew, drawing a close to our first away win.
