Our latest outing saw a mid-week game against Haringey Borough, where a commanding 6-0 win extended our lead at the top of the table and delivered our highest-scoring win of the season so far.
We got off to a strong start, with none other than our number 9, Brooke Haylock, opening the scoring after a quick turn and finish into the bottom-right corner. Haylock’s composure in front of the goal set the tone for the rest of the game, and it wasn’t long before Isla Callison joined her on the score sheet. Reacting quickest to the goalkeeper’s save after a strong cross from Haylock, Callison doubled our lead.
Two goals up, we kept Haringey under pressure, and it was Iesha Swaby’s turn next. Dispossessing her opponent with some outstanding footwork, Swaby continued her fantastic form in front of goal, calmly slotting the ball home.
We picked up where we left off in the second half, with Ammarah Ali once again making things happen down the left. Excellent work rate saw Ali cross the ball in for Swaby, who found the goal on the second touch. Callison then capitalised on a defensive error to make it five, showing quick thinking and composure to finish from close range and bring her tally up to two.
The game was firmly in hand, but Callison wasn’t finished. With just minutes left, an outrageous free kick from range saw her earn her first hat-trick of her senior career in style, looping the ball into the right-hand corner.
While our attacking quality was clear to see, another clean sheet highlighted the work being done across the pitch. We remained disciplined defensively while taking our chances at the other end, delivering a complete performance from start to finish.
Unsurprisingly, Callison was named Player of the Match after an outstanding display. Her three goals were the highlight of the evening, but her work rate and contribution throughout the game made it even more of a deserved recognition.
The win gives us another important three points and further strengthens our position at the top of the table as we continue our push to top the league.
