This afternoon saw us travel to face Histon in the league, looking to continue our strong run of form and bring home another three points.
It was the hosts who struck first, looking to build on the defeat in our previous meeting. We responded immediately, with Shanice Taylor-Newsam marking her debut by bringing us straight back into the game.
Despite the quick start from the opposition, we soon took the lead with Iesha Swaby calmly levelling from the penalty spot to add to her growing goal tally. Taylor-Newsam continued her impressive debut by extending our lead with an strong finish after expertly navigating past mutiple defenders.
We went into half-time ahead, but Histon came out fighting in the second half, putting in a strong defensive display to keep us at bay. Well-versed against a low block, we kept pressing, looking for a way through, and eventually found it from a set piece. A well-placed corner kick from Isla Callison was met cleanly by Jo Butler-Williams as she scored her first of the season.
Still working, there was plenty of time for one more. Louisa Ballach drove forward, producing an excellent box-to-box run before picking out Swaby in the penalty area. Ever composed, Swaby finished calmly to complete her brace and round off an excellent afternoon for the team.
Taylor-Newsam was named Player of the Match after an outstanding debut, marking her first minutes in an Atlético shirt with two excellent goals. A brilliant way to introduce herself to the team.
We’re back home next week as we welcome Dussindale & Hellesdon Rovers to the techsoc.com stadium.
