Perfect Start Continues With Another Three Points
After an unexpected weekend off following the postponement of our fixture against Bowers & Pitsea, we were back in action on Sunday against newly promoted Brentwood, ready to continue our winning start to the season.
There was little sign of any disruption to our rhythm, and we started quickly. Before long, Haylock had once again taken control of the game, with another emphatic first-half showing as she completed her hat-trick to put us firmly in the driving seat.
Brentwood got one back, but we headed into the break with a two-goal lead and, more importantly, the platform to push on in the second half.
With the win in our sights, we pushed to extend this lead in the second 45, and it didn’t take long, with Player of the Match Iesha Swaby swiftly making her mark. Picking up the ball and driving towards the Brentwood defence, she produced an outstanding run before being brought down in the box. Without hesitation, the penalty was awarded. Swaby stepped up herself, calmly getting off the mark and giving us the breathing room we were looking for.
With four goals to our name, the game had settled firmly in our favour, but there was still time for one more. Ali rounded things off in familiar fashion, finding space from a distance to deliver another trademark finish and secure all three points.
After three games, we sit on a perfect nine points from nine. But there is another test waiting for us next weekend as we face Royston Town, the only other side yet to lose this season.
It’s a fixture that Haylock will certainly be looking forward to, having found the net three times in each of our meetings last season. With both teams still unbeaten, it promises to be an interesting game.
